FORMAT OF FORMAL LETTER
2004 - Informal letter. 2005 - Speech. 2006 - Report. 2007 - ?. Many schools are banking on a formal letter this year. So you have to know the format very well. Please look through your red and blue books too on how the other types of letters are written.
I've done a formal letter format that is meant for a general Q asking you to choose the best of 3 options and propose it to your Principal (something like that). Hope this will help you be clear.
SOCIAL STUDIES - ASEAN

I have given you privileged access to many schools' papers. My promise to the owners is that it is only for your use and should not be passed to others.
Please keep our class wiki password confidential and do not allow your friends from other schools to access it. If this privilege is abused, I have no choice but to delete all links to the papers and deprive you of this privilege. Understand that I have ways to find out. Thank you.
Term 4 Week 2

Prelim 2007 EL Sample 1 P1.pdf
Term 4 Week 1 :
The prelims are over but it's not time for rejoicing yet. You have 14 days in Sep (wef Mon 17 Sep) and 28 days in Oct to prepare for your EL paper on 29 Oct 2007. Not much time.
This week we will do the following :
Lesson 1 : Prelim Paper 2 Compre Questions
Lesson 2 : Prelim 2007 EL Sample 1 P2
Prelim 2007 EL Sample 1 P2.pdf
Week 9 : It's prelim week and most of you are taking your 'O' level oral this week. We'll go through again our oral tactics and make sure the strategies are imprinted in your grey matter.
Week 8 : This is a very bad week for us as we miss 2 lessons because of your Science Practicals. We'll be going through the mistakes you made for the letter-writing. There'll be revision on oral too as we study the trends of the past 3 years oral examination questions (2004 to 2006).
Remember that your prelims are coming soon - much sooner than you think - NEXT WEEK!!
Geraldine shared with me the following link to 6 interesting essays written by students. You'll know why it's hot when you read the first essay, so be on your way...
This is HOT! Thanks, Geraldine.
Week 7 : We will be doing 2005 Comprehension passage this week as we could not finish it last week.

Gazelle
I have uploaded some past year passages for you to practice at home for your oral next week.
The least you should do is go through Oral 2 to 4; Oral 1 I have already done with you.
Remember to use the guides in Oral 1.
I will NOT accept any essay (2005 paper) after 8 Aug 2007 as 0808 (8 Aug, get it) is a lucky number and accepting any overdue work after 0808 is considered unlucky, not to mention it being bad for my health. Well, I won't be collecting your long-overdue essays after 0808 , so you are unlucky and what I said is indeed true!!
See yourself in class :

An example of a "heartfelt prayer" (refer to 2001 Paper 2 Q7) :
"Book God, give me the strength to hold up this story book."

The Awakening

Week 6 : The third and last instalment of the ST Horror Series - The Decidely Not Divine Miss P.
Have you met a Chin Huat before? What was your reaction?
We are doing 2005 Paper 1 and 2 this week. Make sure you have your TYS bible with you at every lesson.
Assignment 1 for Week 6 : This is actually Week 5's work that you owe me. Please hand in 2004 Paper 2 (Qs and Summary) by Wed 1 Aug 2007. That's when we will do peer making.
Assignment 2 for Week 6 : Pick a topic from 2005 Paper 1 and write the essay. Hand in to me on Monday, 6 Aug 2007 (Week 7).
These are snippets from your survey. They are your responses.

We are now into Week 5. This is the second horror story published in the Sunday Times. It might be confusing to some but it's the sentence structures that I want you to concentrate on.
There are 3 articles on Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) that you must read as well as the article on fair play.
Your assignment this week is to :
1. Read all 4 articles. With reference to S/No 3 below, comment on the styles of the writers by highlighting how they write their sentences, giving examples of sentences that you like. See if you can spot any errors.
2. Type your comments on Muay Thai wikipages and the Fair Play wikipage.
3. Division of labour :
Index 1 to 10 : Muay Thai Article 1
Index 11 to 20 : Muay Thai Article 2
Index 21 to 30 : Muay Thai Article 3
Index 31 to 37 : Fair Play
Thank you.

This was the story I was telling you about. It's good. Read and learn from it.
Here are some helpful hints from RGS on handling the EL papers.
I've experimented with a new tactic on Sec 5/2 Rudy's work to try and help him (and any of you who are interested) by editing his/your writing.
Please see Rudy's wiki page. I would also appreciate some comments on whether you consider this helpful. Please use the "Comment" function on his page and comment there. If you like, you can email me your writings to edit. Thank you.

People, people ESSAY WRITING : HINT 1 When writing your essay, please do not take extreme positions. Let a sad story be just a sad story, NOT the saddest, most heart-wrenching, most miserable, most depressing story that you can possibly COOK up - which becomes a marker's nightmare. Talking about nightmares - a nightmare is just a bad dream, NOT the worst nightmare of your whole entire life (which, mind you, hasn't been very long), or of the world wide world (some even of the whole universe!!!). No - it should never ever be exaggerated to that extent. Doing so will only give you your WORST nightmare - you will get HORRIBLE marks and possibly even FAIL in your essay writing! So be forewarned!!
