My tears was all over my face, as I shot out of the bed, awake."Is it true that i had a D7 for Chinese? My English is bad enough and now my Chinese too?!", my mind was running wild with madness as I wiped off the tears from my face. Dressed in my home clothes, thinking about whether my dream is true because it seems too realistic, I called Jane and Mary early in the morning of June holiday to check on my doubt.

As the phone started ringing, I was praying that I had not got a D7 for Chinese, but it all just seemed too real to be a dream, so i waited eagerly for the other party to answer my call. After about forty-seven seconds according to the phone, Jane finally answered my call.

I blurted out all my informal greetings once the phone got through, and without any hesitant, all my doubts gushed out like a blocked river which just had huge boulders removed to clear the passage. Jane's tone sounds blur at first, but she soon understood what I meant, and assured me that we have not had our Chinese Oral and listening comprehension, so there is no way I could have gotten my result slip.I sighed in relief, but just couldn't help but called Mary after hanging out the phone.

I did the same informal greetings and blurted out the same thing that i told Jane, to Mary. She giggled and told me jokingly that there is no way that I can prognosticate, so, I did not get D7.

Agreed - I think you did not put much thought and effort into your writing - you just drone on and on. Problems I detect include spelling, grammar, sentence structure and awkward phrases that I cannot understand. Please re-do and this time, I would like to see more thought and effort in your work. Use the topics from the TYS if you cannot think of anything to write.

Comments :

You have chosen an expository approach to this topic. A difficult challenge as you need some facts to back you up. The introductory paragraph is too long. You have just indicated the topic sentences, or in this case the sub-topics, in your paragraphs but there are no details.

My suggestion is that you go for a narrative piece of writing - from the looks of your plan, it will be a difficult task getting a pass based on your expository theme.

Nov 2004 Paper one

2) Write about an occasion when a furious arguement took place, based on a case of mistaken identity.

" Walao! Where did you put your wallet?" I asked my brother furiously.

"I left it on the table, and boy over there said that he saw a Malay guy whom sat at computer 1 taking it away,", my brother replied, while pointing at a boy with Fuchun primary School uniform.

" How can you leave your wallet laying around, when there are so many people here. Don't you have any common sense? "I said in frustration.

"Hey little boy, did you see anyone taking away a black wallet with "the Nightmare after Christmas' printed on it, on this table?"I asked the little boy whom my brother pointed politely, to double check.

"Yeah. A Malay guy who sit there took it away." the boy pointed reluctantly at the chair at computer 1, which was now empty and, returned to his game.

I walked to the counter and asked the uncle( the person in charge) whether he could help me check the person whom sat at computer 1 approximately 15 minutes ago, as my brother lost his wallet and there was a eye witness who saw a Malay guy sitting over there took it.

The uncle told me that he could check who used the computer, but we will only know the person's identification card number, and i replied with a "Its alright", even though it might not be of great help.

I watched, while the uncle looked at the computer screen, in search of the time and computer number that fits unto my clue.

As he scrolled down, i looked wih my eager eyes through the content, and spotted it.

"Uncle, stop!" I exclaimed, and then potinted at the screen."I think it should be this person who stole my brother's wallet."

"The person's identification card number was s919XXXXXX,that means he is the same age as me.How dare he steal my brother's wallet which contains 50bucks; the money he made himself starve in hunger just to buy a toy he wanted and it is just another 10 bucks before he reached his goal.Did he have any shame at all? Stealing at the age of 16.Doesn't he have any morals? What the.... " I thought to mysef as i looked at the screen, scolding whatever came into my mind, in my thoughts.

"Uncle. Can you help me to take note of this boy? when he come here again, can you call this number?", I wrote down my handphone number on a piece of paper and hand it to the uncle.

"Ok.I will help u take notice of it, but most probably he will deny it and if that's the case, there's nothing I can do."the uncle said, while putting notes in his book, to remind himself.

"Thanks alot." after saying this, I stomped out of the Lan shop with my brother, my mind wild with madness, cursing all the Malays in this world just because of a Malay guy whom stole my brother's wallet.

Three days later,I received a call from the uncle, saying that the Malay boy had returned.

My brother and I rushed to the Lan shop, like we were Dash from the Incredibles.

As we hurried to the counter in anger, we were out of breath, and impatient.

The uncle told us that the Malay guy sitting at computer 24 was the one who have the same Identification card as the one belonging to our main suspect.

I walked to the malay guy that the uncle told me, and confronted him in my unusual way.

First, I asked him whether he could turn away from the game because I have a few quetions for him, but he rejected me because he do not know who I am.

So, I sit at the empty seat next to him,and log in to the game that he was playing.

As the game he was playing have this function of whispering to others playing the same game,I whispered to him in the the game and asked him some quetions, like whether he was in the Lan shop three days ago.

Upon seeing me do that, he got frustrated and asked me what I want, and why do I keep disturbing him.

I replied with a "Do you think I like to go around asking strangers questions? You theif! if you didn't stole my brother's wallet, I wouldn't even look at you for 1 second.".

"What?!When did I ever steal your brother's wallet? Are you out of your mind? Don't accuse me of stealing your brother's wallet. I am a upright person and I don't go around stealing people's wallet." he exclaimed, raising his voice as each word came out from his mouth.

As his voice grew louder, some people in the Lan shop started crowding around us, as if feeling that they were anticipating in a show they were watching.

" Yeah, right! As if you really are a upright person"I said in sarcasm, and raised the volume of "are" slightly louder than the other words.

" I have evidence that can prove you stole my brother's wallet three days ago!"I added.

"Well, since you accuse me of stealing your brother's wallet, where are your evidence? Or the evidence that you said you have were all made up ones!''he exclaimed in frustraion.

"Well, I have a eye witness who can say that someone who sat at computer one three days ago stole my brother's wallet, and when I checked with the uncle at the counter who that person is, it turns out that the person have the same identification card number as you.And as it is well-known that no one in the world have the same identification card number, therefore I can conclude you as the person who stole my brother's wallet!" I summed up what I know and shot back to him.

"Oh.Is that so? Then I am sorry to tell you that I didn't come here three days ago, and none the less steal your brother's wallet." he replied with steely eyes.

"Fine, since you said so, we go to the counter and ask the uncle to show us whether you did come here three days ago." I said in anger.

When the Malay guy saw the information in the computer, he was shocked and exclaimed that he really did no come here three days ago.

"Then do anybody know your id and log in to your user?" someone in the crowd exclaimed.

" No. But the money left in my account suddenly drop to zero when I came here today, and I remember that I top up ten dollars the last time I came and I only played for an hour."he said, as he started recounting what happened.

Just then, my eye-witness appeared. I pointed to him and told the malay guy that was my eye-witness.

The big crowd walked over to the litle boy and surrounded him.

I asked the eye-witness whether the Malay guy was the one who took my brother's wallet and miraculously, he said the word, no.

"That's strange. If that is the case, not only is the Malay guy accused by me, he is also the victim of the person who stole my brother's wallet." I thought.

"Sorry. I do not know you are a victim too." I lowered my voice and apologised to him.

"It's alright. If I were you, I would most probably do the same thing that you do." the Malay guy replied.

The uncle then add back the money to the Malay guy's account, and the arguement is all just because of a mistaken identity.
