I have no idea what i should write after thinking for minutes,so i decided to write more about myself. I'm just a typical type of boy,nothing special. My real name is actually Toby Chan Wai Leong,as stated in my birth certificate.I have no idea what my father was thinking when he thought up of such a silly name. I didn't consider "Toby" to sound mature enough as i got older.

I have a nice group of friends whom i always hang out with.Most of the time,we just fool and joke around in class,and always get into trouble together. My results are sort of the worst comparing with my friends,as I've been lazy and slacking ,almost always sleeping at lessons last year,and a bit this year.I've tried to catch up,and although I'm still trying hard,it seems too difficult for me to jump such a great step.

Comments :

Nothing spectacular about your writing - the good thing is that your grammar is acceptable. "No idea what to write" is just an excuse. Not trying hard enough is another. It's "do or die", simple as that. In your case, it's either wake up and start burning the midnight oil or you fail - simple philosophy!

Two paragraphs from favourite author

At last it became possible to breathe,albeit somewhat raggedly.The necromancer lay still,inhaling again and again in attempt to regain some balance.Gradually,matters returned near enough to normal for her to begin to sense other things,such as the chill around her and the moisture saturating all her clothes. A gritty substance in her mouth forced her to spit,and she slowly realised that she lay face down on a sandy beach.

Again the world rumbled around her.Forcing her head up,Kara saw that the heavens above had begun to fill with storm clouds much like those of the tempest through which the King's Shield had sailed. In fact,she suspected the clouds above to be the precursor of the same storm,now ready to assail much of the eastern coast.

Running Away

Introduction :

-Walking aimlessly down the streets, wondering where can i go now.

-As i looked back,i recalled the events that led me to this state

Para 1

-Description of my family,their attitudes towards me.

-How they always nag at me ,sometimes for no reason at all.

-Frequently arguing with them.

Para 2

-Was walking home after school one day.

-Saw a group of teenagers discussing.

-As i walked past them,a fight broke out.

-I broke into a run,but saw three policemen ahead of me.

-We got arrested and sent to the police station for questioning. (A missing link here. You ran away, the group was still fighting and you were arrested. Sounds rather unreasonable for the policemen to arrest you unless you were at the scene. Why didn't you tell the policemen that there was a fight?)

Para 3

-Interrogated by police,explained i wasnt with them.

-Parents came,did not believe a single word i said.

-Scolded and slapped me in front of the public.

-bolted straight for the exit and ran.

Para 4

-Walked along the streets,thinking of where to go.

-My uncle heading to the grocery store drove past,offered me a ride.

-Explained the events to him.

-Decided to discuss with parents.

Para 5

-Discussed with parents.

-Spilled out the problems and trying to solve them.

Conclusion

-Running away is a silly thing to do.

-No how difficult the problem is,it can always be solved.

Comments :

Para 4 and 5 need more thought - how did your parents eventually came around to believe you? How did you work out things with them? Describe the scene - the tension when you met your parents, how both sides feel uncomfotable, perhaps your father trying hard but not quite succeeding in keeping his temper under wrap - something like that. A sound plan except for my comment above.

November 2004 Paper One

2. Write about an occasion when a furious argument took place,based on a case of mistaken identity.

Plan

-Brandon was followed by an unknown stranger

-stranger looked haggard,with tattoos on arms

-suddenly pulled Brandon to a dark corner and questioned him

-demanded the money Brandon owed him

-revealed a pen knife from the stranger's pocket,and threatened to slit his throat

-Brandon pushed the stranger,and tried to run but tripped

-wallet dropped,identification card slipped out,revealed to stranger

-turned out to be his twin brother,Bryan who owed the stranger money.

Who have i offended? Brandon thought hard as he quickened his pace,looking across the back of his shoulder to locate his haggard stalker. Sure enough,the tattooed stranger was walking a distance behind him, acting as though he was just casually walking. Brandon immediately turned his head and looked forward down the streets when his eyes met with those cold ones from the stranger. I accidentally tripped a similar person yesterday,but surely he would not be seeking revenge? Brandon took another chance to glance back again ,but found no sign of the mysterious stalker. This is it! He thought. Brandon slowly broke into a sprint,whizzing past and occasionally waving a sign of apology to the crowd infront.

Panting hard with his hands on his knees,Brandon looked back again,his eyes scanning amidst the crowd for his stalker. They had obviously consumed his nightmare,as he could not spot the haggard man. Searching for a last attempt,Brandon thought he will be better off if he walked along the isolated corners so as not to be spotted,and he made a turn towards the corner of the street. As he walked,he looked around in disgust at the sight of toppled bins with their contents lying around,and pinched his nose at the nauseating stench.
